If your period is late and you have taken a home pregnancy test, make sure the test results are correct. There are a lot of different reasons your test results might be incorrect. Come to A Hope Center for answers you can trust for a medical-grade pregnancy test.

A Hope Center offers free, medical-grade pregnancy testing administered by a licensed medical professional.
How Does a Pregnancy Test Work?
When a woman becomes pregnant, her body produces the human pregnancy hormone known as hCG. This hormone is made right after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterus wall. The hCG level increases approximately six days after fertilization and rises rapidly. A positive test means the hCG is present at a high enough level to indicate probable pregnancy.
When Should I Take a Pregnancy Test?
If you take a pregnancy test too early, you may get a false negative result because the hCG level in your urine has not increased enough to be detected. When your menstrual cycle is like clockwork (every 28 days), you can usually take a pregnancy test a couple of days after your missed period. If your cycle is often irregular, we suggest waiting at least 5 to 7 days after your period should start. By waiting longer, you will get a more accurate urine sample. The Test is Positive. What Should I Do Next?
If you have received a positive pregnancy test from A Hope Center, your next step may be a free limited obstetrical ultrasound. Ultrasounds give you the vital information you will need before deciding on your unplanned pregnancy. Whether you visit one of our clinics or our mobile unit, ultrasounds are always free and confidential. You can also receive free and confidential peer counseling about your pregnancy options.
Also, A Hope Center recommends scheduling a free STI/STD test at our clinic for chlamydia or gonorrhea. If you have an STI or STD when pregnant, it can lead to complications for you and your child during birth.Â
