An informed decision starts with accurate information. Here are some of the most common questions women have when considering abortion.
Not necessarily. If you are within the first nine to ten weeks of pregnancy, you may be eligible for a medication abortion (the abortion pill), which does not involve surgery. However, if you are further along, a surgical procedure may be required. An ultrasound will help determine your options.
The type of procedure available depends on how far along you are. An ultrasound is the most accurate way to determine gestational age. A Hope Center provides free ultrasounds to help you understand your options.
The abortion pill (RU486) is known as a medical abortion. This procedure uses two powerful medications:
Blocks the hormone progesterone, commonly referred to as the "pregnancy hormone." This causes the lining of the uterus to thin and prevents the fetus from staying implanted.
Causes cramping for your body to expel the fetus. Taken 24–48 hours after the first pill.
